Almost exactly one year ago I started photographing in the Detroit neighborhood of Oakwood Heights. You can read more details in the artist statement, but basically the air is forty-six times more polluted than the state average due to its industrial surroundings, and in order to avoid bad PR, lawsuits, actually cleaning it up, etc, Marathon Oil is buying everyone's houses. Remember: the phrases on the photographs are directly quoted from Marathon's Purchase Program Info Handbook.
This is the series as it exists now. I'm still doing some color tweaking with my printer, but hoping to put out a hardcover book in the future, while also submitting the portfolio and key images to galleries.
I plan to revisit Oakwood once or twice a year just to see how it progresses.
Thanks for your continued support,
